A truth about transparency: being authentic has its consequences .

On the left is a 24-year-old woman, a police officer competing in a pageant, weighing 127 pounds. I was ill, suffering from an eating disorder. Truthfully, a routine dentist appointment prompted me to seek help. My dentist informed me that my teeth would weaken and fall out due to my weight and lack of essential nutrients.

On the right is a 48-year-old woman, retired, weighing 179 pounds, whose lunch consisted of salmon, salad, and a mini pizza.

A judge’s opinion….

Honestly, I felt self-conscious about my physical presence, unaware that my abs were even visible. This dress was too big, but a kind hotel manager helped me by adjusting the straps with a rubber band (a rubber band is holding me down!). And I had to judge another woman.

The contestants were accomplished women - entrepreneurs, veterans, law enforcement officers, mothers, and wives - who are positively impacting their communities. And only one could hold the title!

After the winner was announced, I made a point to speak with each contestant, reminding them of their worth and the remarkable contributions they were making in our community. Some handled it well, while others couldn’t hold back the tears. I know the feeling and it hurts.

As I departed the hotel, I felt grateful for the opportunity to meet these change-makers, who are empowering others and creating a brighter future. They truly inspired me.

THROWBACK THURSDAY! I was in my mid-30s with thi

THROWBACK THURSDAY!

I was in my mid-30s with this level of muscle mass, achieved naturally without performance-enhancing substances or testosterone supplementation. I was consuming a significant amount of food (I was eating 7 meals a day), which led to criticism that I needed to reduce my leg size. At 147 pounds, my goal was to reach 135 pounds, but my body had reached a plateau.

Honestly, I perceived myself as overweight. However, I was determined to succeed. I won the competition, and my parents were there. I realized that maintaining a lifestyle that included two hours of cardio daily, pursuing a career, and sustaining this level of physical fitness was unsustainable. The financial investment was substantial, with my boyfriend, who sponsored me, spending over $15,000 on personal training, food and supplements. Ultimately, the reward was a $50, three-tier trophy, which hardly seemed worth the effort.

Transformation Tuesday! The GROW UP!

The girl on the left, who was 33 at the time, was a complete people pleaser lacking validation. In all aspects of life, from work to friendships and personal relationships, nothing was functioning effectively. I was constantly apologizing for my perceived shortcomings. I was overextending myself in an attempt to satisfy everyone, yet most did not even appreciate these efforts. My birthdays were frequently marred by arguments among guests or avoidable emergencies. Furthermore, my eating disorder had resurfaced as a consequence.

In contrast, the 48-year-old girl on the right has gained invaluable insight. I no longer apologize for being myself. I surround myself with individuals who instill a sense of ease. I take immense pride in the person I have become and the confidence to be transparent about my journey. I mean, I wear red lipstick and lingerie solely for my own satisfaction! I am kinder to myself and I accept that I’m no longer that 33 year old! I actually think I look better! CRAZY!

It’s Transformation Tuesday - The GLOW up! These pictures are exactly one year apart.

On the left, this girl was content, traveling around Thailand! However, the local cuisine, climate, wine, and stress associated with traveling were taking a noticeable toll. Despite maintaining a moderate fitness regimen while abroad, the physical effects of cortisol were evident in my belly and face.

On the right, this girl is still content. As an aging woman, I understood that my body is undergoing natural changes and that I had to embrace it! I decided to prioritize my workouts, ensuring they were the FIRST thing I did every morning. My anxiety and stress levels have improved substantially, and I’ve lost 19 pounds in the past year.
